Today, children and young people find themselves growing up in a country marked by significant local inequalities, which now affect all regions.
The new Crc Group report “I diritti dell’infanzia e dell’adolescenza in Italia.I dati regione per regione” (The Rights of Childhood and Adolescence in Italy. Regional Data) confirms the deep regional disparities in Italy, already highlighted in previous editions of the document.
The publication supplements the national analysis outlined in the Annual Update Report on the Monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, providing a regional snapshot through a series of indicators.
The picture outlined in the report shows that all regions are experiencing a declining birth rate, and the child population is decreasing both nationally and across all regions without exception. Other data highlight an increase in relative poverty among under-18s and a decrease in the percentage of young people who play sports in their free time. On the other hand, the number of places in early childhood education and care services per 100 children aged zero to two is increasing. The percentage of early school leavers is falling, as is the infant mortality rate. However, in all these cases, significant regional disparities persist.
The report is available on the Crc Group website.
