An advocacy document from which the glaring contradiction between the provisions of international agreements (from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to the European Convention on Human Rights), for which "detention is never in the best interests of the child", and state legislation emerges. Out of the 38 analysed, in fact, exactly half (19) allow the detention of unaccompanied children, while as many as 27 allow it for boys and girls together with their parents.
Thus, the joint document of the three international agencies also provides a series of detailed recommendations addressed to European states.
The document can be accessed and downloaded from the UNHCR website.
