The inclusion of children and young people with autism spectrum disorders: a regulatory framework

Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders has significantly changed over the past two decades, particularly in terms of raising awareness of the phenomenon. There is a growing awareness that this syndrome causes a permanent disability that will accompany the affected person throughout his or her life. Such a premise has an inherent reflection on the social impact (with reference to life stages) and the high health costs (in relation to the areas of intervention, care and treatment) of this disorder.

These questions have been the subject of discussion by the United Nations, which in the understanding that it must, without exception, guarantee and advance the fulfilment of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of each individual with disabilities.
