On 18 May, Care Leavers Day is celebrated to raise awareness among all citizens on the plight and needs of care leavers, young people coming out of care in the community or in foster care who, at the age of eighteen, often find themselves alone and disorientated, without a home, a job or adequate social support.

To mark the Day, we would like to highlight the national project entitled Care Leavers - Experimenting with interventions in favour of those who, having reached the age of majority, live outside their family of origin following a court order, supported and financed by the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies within the framework of the Fund for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and carried out in collaboration with the Istituto degli Innocenti, which provides technical assistance.

The fourth National Youth Conference of the project was held on 14 and 15 April at the Istituto degli Innocenti in Florence, where observations, evaluations, and proposals were gathered, including those for the drafting of the final report that will complete the cycle of the first five-year experiment. Information and publications on the experiment are available on this site, at the link https://www.minori.gov.it/it/attivita/progetto-care-leavers.

Also, worth mentioning is the association's website created by young care leavers Agevolando (www.agevolando.org), which provides information and news on events and projects dedicated to issues involving young people leaving community or foster care.

Finally, to explore the theme of the Day, we would like to offer the regulatory framework produced by the National Centre for Documentation and Analysis for Children and Adolescents.
