Safer Internet Day (SID), the World Internet Safety Day established by the European Commission, is celebrated on 10 February, and invites young people to reflect on the conscious use of the web and the active and responsible role each individual can play to enjoy a positive and safe internet. The Day involves over one hundred nations and is accompanied by the slogan Together for a better internet.

Initiatives include a national event for schools promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit, coordinator of the Generazioni Connesse - Italian Safer Internet Centre project, which takes place in Rome with the involvement of the Youth Panel on topics such as digital wellbeing, artificial intelligence, deepfakes and online grooming. The Web Safety Month campaign also kicks off with the SID, with activities in schools until 28 February and the launch of the video game “The Game Changers”.

Several other organisations are promoting initiatives on the subject, including Telefono Azzurro, Unicef, Save the Children and Terre des Hommes Italy, which disseminates data from the Observatory for the protection of adolescents and young people from online risks.
