Despite the achievements on the rights of children and adolescents, not all minors have the same opportunities: inequalities are growing, with inevitable repercussions on society as a whole, and there is still a long way to go to eliminate them. World Children’s Day on 20 November, the thirty-fifth anniversary of the approval of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (20 November 1989), invites us to reflect on the central role of the new generations, drawing attention to the importance of listening to children and adolescents and of policies that promote their leadership.

On this anniversary, institutions, associations and others organise conferences, meetings, seminars and other events all over the world to raise awareness of the rights of under-18s. Italy too is celebrating with a wide range of initiatives.

To further explore the theme of the Day, the following study materials selected from the A.C. Moro Innocenti Library are recommended: Bibliographic research on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; Bibliographic research on the rights of children; Bibliographic research on the rights of the underage girls.

Other materials and news can be found on this site under the topic International Day of the Rights of Children accessible from the "Topics" navigation menu.
