Promoting the mental well-being of children and young people is crucial.
Achieving this goal requires a multifaceted and interdisciplinary approach, as safeguarding their mental health has profound implications not only for their individual development but also for the broader communities and environments they are part of.
At international level, the mental health of children and adolescents is legally protected under Article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in New York on 20 November 1989 and ratified in Italy by Law No. 176 of 27 May 1991.
The importance of minors’ mental health is further emphasised by the third of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims precisely at ensuring healthy living and well-being for all at all ages by focusing on a number of crucial aspects, such as the promotion of mental health and psychological well-being.
