The future I would like is the new online public consultation aimed at adolescents between 14 and 18 years old launched by the Italian Ombudsman for Children (AGIA) Carla Garlatti on 16 January to gather the views of young people on expectations and proposals for action with respect to the future awaiting them. The initiative, carried out together with Skuola.net, follows the previous consultation The school I would like, proposed by the Ombudsman in 2021.

"I am firmly convinced that children must contribute in a tangible way to building their future, including by expressing directly their ideas and how they would like them to be implemented," says Garlatti. This is why I strongly supported this consultation with the aim of offering children a tangible participation tool and to collect suggestions and ideas that can then be turned into recommendations to be addressed to the institutions to try to guide the choices of political decision-makers as much as possible.

The questions were prepared in collaboration with the Authority's Consultation of Girls and Boys – an advisory body formed by a group of young people between 14 and 17 years old – with the support of an expert.

The questions of the consultation, active for a month and a half starting from 16 January on the website www.skuola.net, are divided into six chapters:

• What do I think of the future;
• How I see the future of the world;
• How I see my future;
• What am I doing for my future;
• What the state does or should do for a better future;
• What Europe and international bodies must or should do for the future.
