An overview of the draft laws currently being discussed in Parliament on sport in school
The right of children to engage in sporting activities is not specifically referred to in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, but can nevertheless be assumed on the basis of a comprehensive and combined interpretation of certain articles of the Convention itself, mainly Article 31.
In its General Comment No 17 of 2013, The right of the child to rest, leisure, play, recreational activities, cultural life and the arts, the United Nations reiterated and elaborated on the importance of Article 31 of the Convention for the well-being and development of children in order to ensure and strengthen its implementation.
The inclusion of physical education teaching in primary school in the Budget Law is of great significance at a national level. A historic turning point on the path to guaranteeing the full enjoyment of the right to sport for children.
