Almost half of the world's children - around one billion - live in countries at high risk of climate and environmental crises; since 2022, 400 million students in the world have experienced school closures due to extreme weather conditions. These are some of the figures from the Unicef Report “The State of the World's Children 2024”, published on 20 November 2024 on World Children’s Day.
The Report examines three disruptive trends or megatrends that in the long term will have a profound impact on children's lives between now and 2050: demographic changes, climate and environmental crises and frontier technologies. “By understanding these trends and their implications for children - reads the summary published on Unicef website - we can better grasp the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
The Italian summary of “The State of the World's Children 2024. The future of childhood in a changing world” is available on Unicef website. The full text in English can be consulted on the same website.
