Rassegna bibliografica 2/2010 - Reconciliation of work and family life

The bibliographic review, written by the sociologist Rossana Trifiletti, Professor at the University of Florence, describes the evolution of the international cultural and political debate on the reconciliation of work and family life from the Seventies up to now.

According to the Florentine sociologist, the reconciliation of work and family life requires not only initiatives in the fields of labour policies and equal opportunities: indeed, the countries which promote it adopt a cross-cutting approach encompassing measures of social support, tax benefits for families with children and for housing. The author then discusses the issue of the reconciliation of work and family life in EU policies, as well as the studies on family and care by the OECD, which mainly focus on the quality of children’s services.

The reconciliation of work and family life is also analysed in the filmography review written by Fabrizio Colamartino and Marco Dalla Gassa. Their article focuses in particular on spare time and holidays, when children and parents can traditionally spend some time together, free of work and school.
