The UN Convention: updated edition

Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocols

This revised translation of the UN Convention arose from the need to highlight the great changes that have taken place in recent decades at a cultural, social and legal level in the world of childhood and adolescence, following Italy's implementation of the Convention through Law 176 of 27 May 1991.

The Department for Family Policies commissioned a working group, set up at the Istituto degli Innocenti in Florence, to work on an updated edition of the Convention which, while remaining faithful to the original structure of its contents and values, would be closer to the language of today.

The same assessment was also made in relation to the translation into Italian of the three Optional Protocols to the Convention which, for the first time, have been brought together in a single document.
